The origins of Caldera
In 2021, when New Zealand businessman, property developer, entrepreneur and winegrower Tony Anderson first set foot on the land overlooking the village of Akaroa and its magnificent harbour, he was taken aback.
Known then as Miniscus Wines, the slopes of the tired vineyard for sale offered spectacular views, and its fertile volcanic soils, long sunshine hours and 30-year-old vines had already produced a number of renowned wines.
But, so close to the village and surrounded by the hills of the ancient volcanic landform that would eventually lend Caldera its name, it was the profound sense of place that struck him. It inspired the vision for a unique wine destination and New Zealand’s most exclusive luxury resort.
Buying the vineyard and drawing upon his decades of industry experience and extensive worldwide travel, the new owner began shaping its future. Caldera Vineyard Estate is Tony Anderson’s legacy.
