After years of careful planning, Caldera Wine Estate has officially broken ground. This pivotal moment, including the drilling of a new well, marks the first step in the realization of our vision to produce exceptional wines in a stunning environment while emphasizing sustainability.
Much like the impact of the breaking dawn on a small child on Christmas day, the moment of realisation that the vineyard’s plump Pinot grapes were ripe for the plucking was met with more than a little jubilation from the Caldera camp.
The striking lines, form and fabric of Caldera Vineyard Estate’s buildings will be a bold statement in contemporary architecture designed to celebrate the magnificent harbour landscape and the flora and fauna of our beautiful surroundings.
We aren’t the first to cherish this place and its fruit-bearing qualities. The pinot noir, pinot gris and riesling grapes for Caldera’s premium wines are the rewards of vines planted on the estate by the original visionaries of the nineties and matured over decades.
In 2021, when New Zealand businessman, property developer, entrepreneur and winegrower Tony Anderson first set foot on the land overlooking the village of Akaroa and its magnificent harbour, he was taken aback.
